Joseph Katz, the William F. Ward Sr. Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering’s Class of 2019.
According to the academy, becoming a member “honors those who have made outstanding contributions to ‘engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature’ and to ‘the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.’ ”
Katz was cited “for development of optical methods in experimental fluid mechanics for turbomachinery, cavitation, turbulence, and environmental flows.”
The new class will be formally inducted during a ceremony at the NAE’s annual meeting in October in Washington, D.C.
