Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering

The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees designed to prepare our graduates for a rapidly changing world. Our faculty are world-renowned leaders in their fields, and our students—from undergraduates and graduate students to postdoctoral fellows—have the opportunity to work with them one-on-one on problems defining the state-of-the art. Our approach is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, and we stress the exploration of innovative and even unconventional ideas.

Problem solving is at the heart of the department’s approach to engineering education. For example, our undergraduate program culminates in a two-semester senior design course, in which teams of students work to solve problems posed by industry sponsors.

At the graduate level, we offer an on-campus MS program, an online program tailored to the needs of working professionals, and a highly-regarded doctoral program.

Whether you are interested in learning more about our faculty members, exploring our research areas, or familiarizing yourself with admissions requirements for our undergraduate and graduate programs, we hope you will find the answers you need here.

I invite you to contact me at ME_Dept_Chair@jhu.edu with questions and inquiries. We look forward to hearing from you.
