Rich Bauernschub is a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and lead instructor of the Senior Design capstone class for mechanical engineering. With over 25 years of industry experience, he guides students through a rigorous and hands-on product development lifecycle to deliver proven solutions to their industry sponsors. His experience in a variety of technical leadership roles enables him to instruct students in advanced design practices as well as collaboration and project management.

Before joining Johns Hopkins in 2023, he served as the director of engineering for a leading developer of autonomous and uncrewed sea vessel and aircraft systems. He currently serves on two Maryland councils as an advocate for people with disabilities.

He earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins in 1993 and his master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland College Park in 1995.
