Noah CowanCongratulations to Professor Noah Cowan, who as part of two collaborative, multi-university teams, has recently received two grants totaling $2.6M to study mechanical agility and neural control in animals.

Prof. Cowan is examining the neural and biomechanical secrets employed by animals that allow them to achieve amazing feats of agility and control that robot designers can still only dream of. Prof. Cowan leads a National Science Foundation grant with New Jersey Institute of Technology that examines “active sensing” in the weakly electric glass knifefish, and is is a co-investigator on a large Army Research Office grant led by Tufts University. Prof. Cowan’s portion of these research efforts totals just under $1M over 5 years.
