Tamer Zaki, professor of mechanical engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He is a member of JHU’s Institute for Data Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES), the Center for Environmental and Applied Fluid Mechanics (CEAFM), and the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI).

Election as an APS Fellow recognizes outstanding professional contributions to the field of physics. Tamer was recommended for this honor by the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics for his “fundamental contributions to linear and non-linear theories of bypass transition, novel applications of data science to fluid mechanics, and innovative numerical simulations of Newtonian and non-Newtonian flows with practical applications.”

Tamer focuses on theoretical and computational innovations in the field of turbulence, accurate predictions of chaotic flows, and optimization strategies to meet the challenges that are created when turbulence mixes momentum, heat, and mass.
