Investigate Grazing Behaviors of Calanoid Copepod using Holographic Cinematography

Welcome to Copepod Group

Our project aims at studying the feeding-related behaviors of calanoid copepod using digital holographic cinematography. The project is collaborating with Patricia Tester and Rebecca Waggett from NOAA, and Allen Place from University of Maryland, Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology.

Goals

• Study the feeding behaviors of Copepods on diet of toxic dinoflagellates.

• Study fluid mechanics in the feeding process of  calanoid copepods.

• Provides behavior evidences for studying  the sensing mechanism of Copepods.

Highlights

Apply to digital holographic to record free-swimming copepods.

Apply high-speed recording to capture fast motions of copepods.

Record with different magnifications to monitor the behaviors of copepods and their prey-dinoflagellates simultaneously.
