Ishan Barman, who joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2014, has been promoted to associate professor with tenure, effective July 1, 2019.

The Barman Laboratory at Johns Hopkins combines optical spectroscopy, chemical imaging, and nanoplasmonics to develop non-invasive approaches that provide integrated insight into disease mechanisms. For example, the lab recently developed a new imaging tool that could help doctors predict how cancer will respond to radiation.

Barman has a a joint appointment in the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received an MS and PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to joining Hopkins, Barman was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laser Biomedical Research Center at MIT.
