John Staehlin ’61, an alumnus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Hoover Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The Hoover Medal recognizes the civic and humanitarian achievements of engineers. Staehlin was cited “for accomplishments as an engineer, inventor, and the founder of a not-for-profit volunteer organization, ‘Volunteers for Medical Engineering,’ that creates special-purpose assistive devices to enable physically-disabled persons to achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life.”
