Steven Marra has been a teaching faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering since 2011. He teaches several core lecture and laboratory courses within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Marra has developed courses in engineering graphics and mechanical design, and he is the director of undergraduate studies for the department.

He was the recipient of the 2013 Robert B. Pond Sr. Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2013 George E. Owen Teaching Award, the 2016 Capers and Marion McDonald Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Advising, and the 2019 ASEE Mid-Atlantic Section Distinguished Teaching Award.

He earned his BS degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993, and his MS and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins in 1998 and 2001, respectively. He worked as a post-doc and lecturer at Dartmouth College in the early 2000s, and as a practicing engineer in New Hampshire before returning to Baltimore in 2010.
